On November 9th, Engineering Dean, Dr. Sayakhat Nukeshev, along with seven faculty members from Agrotechnical University of Kazakhstan (KATU) visited our department as a part of ongoing collaboration between UC Davis and KATU. Former Dean, Neal Van Alfen, is the liaison for the agreement of Cooperation between UC Davis and KATU.
Dean Nukeshev presented at a departmental seminar about his University with information on the development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, particularly agricultural production indicators, modern state and perspectives of KATU, and KATU’s involvement in the State program of industrial innovative development for 2015-2019
One area of particular interest to KATU is the area of agricultural mechanization. In this connection, Prof. Shrini Upadhyaya visited KATU this summer to help in the establishment of a Masters program in Technological Machines and Equipment.
Dean Nukeshev’s visit is to strengthen the existing collaboration and develop future collaboration in research between our two Universities. Areas of particular interest to KATU are automation, robotics, precision agriculture, and agricultural mechanization. They also have interest in establishing a PhD program with the collaboration of faculty members in UC Davis.
Visiting KATU faculty members are currently undergoing training at UC Davis in advanced manufacturing processes, food processing, extension education and economics.
